Bea's views (really this is Bea's version)

Thought I’d better add my perspective plus some proper spelling and grammar to the “blog” thing that Sean’s done. As will surprise very few of our honourable readers – I really don’t get the concept of a blog thing but am content to go along with the flow.

Paris is exceptional. It is very busy mainly due to the enormous amount of tourists. The French all smell good and all of them are slim. Any fat people seem to be tourists.

The architecture is breathtaking and I am getting a sore neck from walking around constantly looking up. (Have fortunately avoided walking into anything so far, though I am sure that if I do Sean will show you the photo). The amount of time and dedication that has gone into making beautiful buildings (and keeping them; they seem to clean up old stuff in stead to tearing it down) is amazing. Seeing the churches one could almost forgive the Catholics for believing God would only come visit them.

The traffic is, as Sean said, scary. There do not seem to be any rule other than they, of course, drive on the right. Red lights mean stop. Or go if you prefer. Makes life interesting. We are sticking to the Metro – it is an excellent way to get around.

Yesterdays visit to the catacombs was awe-inspiring. I couldn’t help wondering about the people who transported all those bones and arranged them in pretty patterns. What were they thinking? How does one get ones mind around doing a job like that?

As Sean mentioned the designer second hand shop today was a disappointment and makes me believe that my guide book was written by somebody with a lot of money – I cannot see how 1,000 Euros for a second hand dress can possibly be a bargain. Designer label or not!

La Maison du Chocolat was amazing. The French version of Haigh’s and about as good. Yes, really! The shop was more elegant, though, like most of Paris so far. About twice the price of Haigh’s. Actually, everything here is about twice the price of Adelaide.

The Eiffel Tower was amazing – I found it really strange to actually be there. A bit like it couldn’t possibly be true. You know; like the Truman Show where it was all an illusion. The view of Paris as you can see from Sean’s photos was fantastic. But how anybody could ever have thought the construction was temporary is a mystery – the thing is solid!

The flat we are staying in is tiny. It is impossible to shower without hitting the wall and there is barely room for Sean and I to change our minds at the same time. As for having to climb five flights of (insert swearword here [Ed]) 18^th century stairs … well, let’s say I am making up for eating croissants. I have decided that next time we go abroad I am taking my house. And for the smart ones – yes, I know it will cause trouble in customs but I am working on a way around it!

It was lovely to see my friend Isa today. And get to speak a bit of Danish. But just spending time with an old friend is great!

Tomorrow we are going to Monet’s Garden. Expect beautiful photos.
